Christian Science Nurses Training Centre at Charton Manor
Accredited by the British Accreditation Council for Independent Further and Higher Education

Training Overview

Charton Manor is a Christian Science nursing facility in the Kent countryside yet half an hour’s train ride to the centre of London. It is dedicated to supporting patients who are receiving treatment from a Journal-listed Christian Science practitioner and who are in need of temporary Christian Science nursing care.

Christian Science nurses desiring to work at Charton Manor are expected to have taken part in some preparation for their nursing ministry either here at our Christian Science Nurses Training and Resource Centre or at other Christian Science nursing facilities around the world.

There is no single way to prepare to represent oneself as a Christian Science nurse. The cornerstone of our nursing ministry is the Church Manual By-Law, Article VIII: SECT. 31 and our structured, systematic preparation programme is offered to assist individuals in meeting the requirements for representing themselves as Christian Science nurses.

The training programme at Charton Manor is comprised of four separate courses focusing on the practice of Christian Science nursing at an introductory, basic, advanced and supervisory level.

Each course consists of a classroom based training period (between two and eight weeks) and several months of practical paid on-the-job instruction on the nursing floor under the guidance of experienced Journal listed Christian Science nurses either at Charton Manor or another Christian Science nursing facility. It is also possible to complete this period of on-the-job-instruction under the supervision of a Journal listed Christian Science nurse in the field.

The successful completion of each level is required before admission to the next progressive level of training.

The classroom periods provide a special time where new ideas can be shared and nursing skills and nursing judgement can be explored and practiced in a supportive environment. Students have to allow extra time each day for home work.

Thorough evaluations are an integral part of both the classroom based training and the following practical on-the-job-instruction period on the nursing floor. Further tuition and in-house training is also offered to enable Christian Science nurses to fulfil the additional requirements necessary for working in a Christian Science nursing facility in England.
