Christian Science Nursing Introduction
REQUIREMENTS FOR ENROLLMENT

Membership in The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston Massachusetts
Membership of a branch church or of The Mother Church or Journal-listed Christian Science Society
A demonstrable knowledge of Christian Science practice
Expression of nursing qualities as required by Mary Baker Eddy in Science and Health, page 395, lines 17-20.
Have had, or be in process of having, Primary Class Instruction by an authorised teacher of Christian Science
A satisfactory command of the English language in speaking, reading and writing
18 years of age (UK legal requirement)
Physically capable of carrying out practical nursing duties

This course consists of three weeks’ classroom study, followed by a period of work experience/on-the-job experience in the nursing department here at Charton Manor. Students may elect to take their work experience/on-the-job experience at any other Christian Science nursing facility or under the supervision of a Journal-listed Christian Science nurse working in the Field.

Subjects covered in the Introductory Course include:
1. Introduction to Ethics – First exploration of Christian Science nursing as firmly rooted in the Bible and the writings of Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science
2. Basic Concepts of Christian Science Nursing Care – metaphysical foundation and their application in the healing ministry of the Christian Science nurse.
3. The Organisation of a Christian Science Nursing Facility – Introduction to the standards governing a Christian Science nursing facility and the role of the Christian Science nurse within it.
4. Introduction to Communication - essential communication skills in support of Christian Science healing
5. Safety in the Christian Science Nursing Environment – metaphysical foundation, legal considerations and their practical implementation
6. Elementary Christian Science Nursing Care Skills – relative to the standard of the Christian Science Nurse in the Church Manual By-Law Art. VIII, Sect 31.
The fee for tuition is £525 and a student salary will be paid during the work experience/on-the-job instruction portion of this course. Room and board in Charton Manor staff accommodation is currently £65.00 per week.
