The Aid Fund for Christian Scientists in Need of Nursing Care
The Purpose of the Fund
The purpose of the Fund is to provide financial assistance to individuals in need of Christian Science nursing care, who are relying for healing entirely upon the Bible-based method of healing known as Christian Science, and who are unable to meet the full cost of the provision of Christian Science nursing without undue hardship.

The Establishment of the Fund
The initiative to set up the Aid Fund came from the Christian Science Board of Directors in December 1977. The Aid Fund was duly constructed by a Trust Deed dated 30th April 1979. A substantial fund to commence the activity was built up from resources already within the United Kingdom and a generous donation from The Mother Church. The Fund is administered by a Secretary and five Trustees who must be resident in the United Kingdom and be members of The Mother Church and a branch Church or Society.

Level of Grants Available to Individuals Receiving Care in a Christian Science Nursing Facility.
The granting of aid is at the discretion of the Trustees, and will depend on the resources of the Fund and the overall level of claims. This is a Charitable Trust, and the Trustees must make certain enquiries. REPLIES WILL BE KEPT IN STRICTEST CONFIDENCE.

A patient in a Christian Science nursing facility (a Christian Science House) may obtain an application form from the House’s Administrator, who will assist in its completion. In approved cases, the Fund will pay part of the amount by which the cost exceeds the payments made by or on behalf of the patient. The level of the Fund’s contribution varies from time to time in the light of its income and the overall level of claims. Once grants run out, the Hawthorne Trust Benevolent Fund steps in to bridge the shortfall.

(It is expected that all applicants will contribute as much as they can reasonably afford, and will consider other possible sources such as the Benevolence Fund of a Branch Church or Society, or of a Christian Science Students’ Association.)
